The fifth day was the last day of the camp. Based on all the learning of historical facts and people in our 5000 year history, we focused on “Korea Tomorrow”.
다섯번째 날인 금요일은 캠프의 마지막 날로, <한국의 내일>이라는 가상의 박물관으로 견학을 떠나는 형식으로 진행됐습니다. 특별히 제작된 ‘박물관 브로셔’를 가지고 마치 박물관을 둘러보듯이 호랑 선생님의 가이드로 <한국의 내일>을 기획하기 위해 알아야 할 근대사 여행을 시작했습니다.
To create perspective on the future of Korea, the campers learned about the most tragic historical events in our recent history, the division between North and South Korea. The campers learned about the background of division between North Korea and South Korea after World War II.
박물관의 첫번째 이야기는 한민족의 가장 비극적인 사건이었던 남한과 북한으로의 나뉘게 된 배경에 대해 배웠습니다. 오천년동안 하나의 나라였던 한민족이 2차대전 이후, 남한과 북한으로 두개의 정부가 세워지게 된 배경과 남한과 북한의 공식명칭도 다시금 확인했지요.
It was a form of field trip through the imaginary museum, <Korea Tomorrow>. With a specially made museum brochure, the campers learned about the Korean War and its result. Looking back on the hardest time in recent Korean history, the campers got a chance to think of their grandparents and their hardship. After that, the campers saw the difference between South Korea and North Korea through modern day pictures and leader presentations. ‘A State of Mind’, a documentary about two North Korean girls, was also viewed. As a part of North Korea’s situation, North Korean defectors were covered.
‘한국전쟁(2층)’에 대해서는 21개국의 UN가입국을 비롯한 참전국과 전쟁의 경과와 결과에 대해 배우며 할아버지,할머니가 겪으셨을 전쟁의 참혹함에 대해 떠올려 보았습니다.대한민국과 북한의 오늘의 변화된 모습과 차이점에 대해서도 ‘오늘의 남한과 북한(3층)’이라는 제목으로 배우며 북한소녀 두명의 일상이 담긴 ‘A State of Mind’라는 다큐멘터리 영화의 몇 부분도 보았습니다. 탈북자에 대해서도 배웠습니다.
Finally, the last section of the museum was about ‘Reunification in the Korean Peninsula’. The activities of Korean-Americans for the reunification of the two Koreas were also introduced. Comparing a map of Korea Today and Korea Tomorrow depicting our future as a unified country was our final PPT slide. The camp leaders’ explanations for several PPT slides were also an important part of the instruction.
‘한반도의 통일(4층)’을 위해 미국에 살고있는 교포들이 하고있는 활동에 대해서도 배웠습니다. 분단된 오늘의 지도와 통일이 되어 하나로 표시된 내일의 한국의 지도를 보는 것으로 강의를 마무리했습니다. 이번 강의에는 캠프 리더들의 각기 다른 토픽에 대한 프레젠테이션도 아주 중요한 부분이었습니다.
In separate teams, campers watched/talked about a speech by North Korean defector, Joseph Kim discussed what problems North Korea has today as well as the life threatening escape and starvation of North Koreans. Today’s snack was ‘Choco Pie’ and ‘cup noodles’ which are the most popular South Korean food to North Koreans. These food items are often exchanged as money in North Korea.
각 팀의 교실로 들어가서 진행된 활동으로는 숙제로 나갔던 탈북자,‘조셉 김’의 강연을 다시보며, 혹은 이야기나누며 ‘탈북자’들의 목숨을 건 탈출과 북한사람들의 비극적인 삶에 대해 토의했고, 스낵으로는 북한사람들에게는 가장 인기있으며, ‘돈’으로 거래된다는 대한민국 간식인, ‘쵸코파이’와 ‘컵라면’을 북한 사람들을 생각하며 먹었습니다.
For the final presentation, the campers made a role play or news-show about how people of different nationalities think of North Korea. Thinking about different perspectives on North Korea and changing the interest in North Korea from dictatorship to the North Korean people will be the first step in helping the world realizes North Korea’s hardship and taking action to help them. The last presentations were enlightened by our special guests, the Consulate General of SF, Han Dongman, NAKS Chairman of the board, Chang DongKoo, President of KSANC Chang Eunyoung, the former president of KSANC Chung Haechun, and President of the Silicon Valley Korean American Federation, Na Kibong. Also Captain Rick Sung of Santa Clara County Sheriff gave leadership awards to the camp leaders and cheered them up.
프레젠테이션으로는 북한 사람들에 대해 각국의 사람들은 어떻게 생각하고 있는지에 대한 역할극과 북한에 대한 세계인의 인식을 바꾸기 위한 ‘뉴스쇼’를 발표하며 세계 속에서 함께 풀어가야 할 과제인 ‘남북한의 통일’에 대해 생각해 보는 기회를 만들었습니다. 마지막날 프레젠테이션은 특히 캠퍼들을 응원하러 오신 한동만 샌프란시스코 총영사님, 장동구 재미한국학교협의회 이사장님, 장은영 재미한국학교 북가주 협의회 회장님, 정해천 재미한국학교 북가주 협의회 전직 회장님, 나기봉 실리콘밸리한인회 회장님등의 손님들께서 함께 지켜보는 가운데 잘 마쳤습니다. 릭성 산타클라라카운티 세리프 커맨더는 캠프 리더들에게 Leadership Award를 수여하였고 한국어와 영어를 모두 잘하는 리더들이 되라고 격려하였습니다.
