2025년 8월 2일, 산호세한인장로교회 회의실에서 오후 2시부터 5시까지 YKAA 캠프 리더 훈련이 진행되었다.
호랑 선생님의 사회로 시작된 이번 훈련에서는 캠프 교사와 리더 소개가 이어졌다. 리더들은 자신을 소개하며 재미있는 특징이나 자신의 리더십을 잘 나타낼 수 있는 표현을 활용해 서로에 대해 알아가는 시간을 가졌다.
직지 선생님은 2012년에 설립된 YKAA 캠프의 의미와 취지를 설명하였고, 이어 리더로서의 역할과 책임에 대해 함께 나누었다.
‘How to be a good presenter’를 주제로 프레젠테이션을 잘하기 위한 방법에 대해 토의한 후, 캠프에서 지켜야 할 ‘캠프 코드’에 대해서도 함께 점검하였다.
또한 교실에서 발생할 수 있는 문제 상황에 대한 해결 방안을 짝활동을 통해 모색하고 발표하였다. 캠퍼들이 수업에 적극 참여하지 않을 경우에 대한 해결책으로는 스티커 활용, 다양한 교수법 적용, 일대일 대화, 친절한 조언 등이 제시되었다.
이후 2025년 YKAA 캠프의 주제, 일정, 세부 활동에 대해 논의하고, 캠프 워크북을 바탕으로 프로그램 내용을 함께 점검하였다.
리더 과제 발표 시간에는 각자가 준비해 온 가족의 이민 이야기를 포스터로 소개하고, 재미한인 작가의 책이나 재미한인을 다룬 소설을 읽고 북리뷰를 발표하였다. 발표가 끝난 뒤에는 서로의 발표에 대해 좋은 점을 찾아 칭찬하는 시간도 가졌다.
팀별 모임을 통해 팀 이름을 정하고, 리더들이 맡은 발표 주제를 정리하며 훈련을 마무리하였다.
1st Day
- Summarize and present about the first Korean American immigrant in 1903, its historical background, the process of immigration, and life after immigration. (재윤)
- Explain what Pachappa Camp was and what impact it had. (기현)
- Research and present on Susan Ahn Cuddy, Myung Ki Hong, and Young Woo Kang (3 leaders) (지섭, 희, 준우)
2nd Day
- What Makes K-Beauty Unique and Popular? A Comparison with Global Makeup Styles. (채린)
- Who Best Represents K-Fashion? Choose One Male and One Female Icon to Showcase the Characteristics of Korean Fashion. (강준)
- Book review project for campers - Read a book written by a Korean American author that offers a Korean American perspective (2 leaders) (아라, 보미)
3rd Day
- Give a presentation on “Challenges Facing the AAPI Community. (재인)
- Give a presentation on “How to Make Your Voice Heard.” (지윤)
- Research and introduce a heritage museum from another ethnic group (Examples include: the Japanese American Museum of San Jose, The Viet Museum, etc.) (예은)
Navigating Career Paths in the Era of AI (AI 시대의 진로 계획)에 대한 패널 토크를 위한 질문을 생각하고 발표하였다.
- 기현: What made you pursue your current career
- 예은: What is the biggest challenge throughout their career and how they overcame it
- 지섭: What is the biggest changes they face with AI or in their career
- 지윤: What is the one thing you want to share with next generation to reach their career goal?
- 아라: Do you think AI opens up or closes more career job opportunities and then how?
마지막으로 캠프 준비를 위해서 태극기와 무궁화 자르기, 이름표 만들기, 떡볶이 배틀 상장 만들기 활동 등으로 나누어 일을 마치고 캠프 팀 사진을 찍고 마쳤다.
